Welcome to Architecture by the Book!
An exciting new program from the California Architectural Foundation (CAF), Architecture by the Book is designed to inspire young minds by introducing children to the world of architecture. Through this program, local architects, emerging professionals and architecture students of all ages and experience levels visit classrooms and communities to share their passion for design through engaging book readings, presentations, and creative activities.
A special focus of this program is celebrating diversity in architecture. Lessons highlight architects from diverse backgrounds, with a primary goal of reaching underrepresented schools and communities, helping to broaden access to this inspiring profession.
Originally created and tested by AIA Central Valley, Architecture by the Book has been expanded across California through a partnership between AIA California and the California Architectural Foundation (CAF).

- A book recommendation featuring a specific architect or architectural theme.
- A downloadable presentation that brings the book’s concepts to life, making it easy to follow along.
- A hands-on activity using everyday classroom materials, encouraging kids to think creatively about design.
- Most importantly, a list of volunteers to guide the lesson, share insights, and inspire the next generation.
