Have you ever thought about sharing your love of architecture with students? The California Architectural Foundation (CAF) Architecture by the Book program: is a simple, rewarding way to introduce young learners to architecture—no prior teaching experience needed!
With AIA Architecture Week (April 13–19) quickly approaching, we invite you to bring an Architecture by the Book lesson to children in your community—whether during Architecture Week or anytime in 2025. This program makes it easy to get involved, providing a structured lesson that connects students with architecture in a fun, engaging way in about 90 minutes.
To help you feel confident and prepared, we’re offering a free virtual volunteer training featuring experienced architect volunteers: Laura Knauss, AIA (Program Founder), Jeannie Bertolaccini, AIA, and Polly Osborne, FAIA. They’ll share their experiences, insights, and practical tips to ensure your session is both impactful and enjoyable.
What You’ll Learn:
- The key elements of an Architecture by the Book lesson
- How to find a classroom or organization to host your session
- What materials you need to bring (and what schools may provide)
- Tips for making the experience fun and interactive
- Q&A session to answer your questions
