Enroll in capX: the California Architectural Practice Experience Program

Firm Participation Requirements

Join capX and help shape the future of architecture, one experience at a time! Participating firms must:

  • Be based in California and have at least one licensed architect who is a current AIA California member serving as the capX point of contact.
  • Follow the enrollment process, reach out to emerging professionals promptly for interviews after the participant list is released, and finalize job shadowing or internship details by April 14th.
  • Offer paid internships at or above California’s minimum wage. If a paid internship isn’t feasible, consider providing an unpaid job shadowing opportunity—even a short experience can be invaluable to an emerging professional.
  • Submit the online enrollment form by March 7, 2025

Student/Early Practitioner Requirements

capX is designed for individuals eager to gain hands-on experience in architecture. Participation is open to:

  • Students exploring architecture as a career
  • Students enrolled in architecture programs (Community College or University)
  • Individuals on the experience-only path to licensure

To participate, you must:

  • Be enrolled in an architecture or related degree program at a community college or university, or be on an experience-only path to architectural licensure.
  • Reside in California for the duration of your internship or job shadowing experience (you may currently live anywhere in the U.S. or abroad).
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Complete the enrollment form thoroughly to showcase your skills and talents, helping firms assess your potential.
  • Actively participate—respond to interview requests promptly, coordinate directly with firms to arrange your experience, and submit your Agreement Form by April 14th.

This is your opportunity to gain real-world experience, connect with professionals, and take the next step in your architectural journey. Please note: Not all applicants will be matched with a firm. If you are not selected, CAF will offer other opportunities to connect, including one-on-one virtual mentoring.
